Jian Guo Garden Hotel Review: Is It Worth Staying? (2026)
We stayed at Jian Guo Garden Hotel (Jianguo Garden Hotel Beijing) in Beijing’s Dongcheng District with our 6-year-old.
The location worked well for sightseeing, our daughter loved the indoor pool, breakfast had plenty of choices, and the staff helped us with transportation—including pickups for our trip around Beijing and to the airport.
Would we stay again? Yes.
It’s not a new or design-forward hotel, but if you want a comfortable, practical base for exploring Beijing, it worked very well for us.

Jianguo Garden Hotel Location: Is It Good for Sightseeing?
Location was one of the main reasons the hotel worked for us.
Jian Guo Garden Hotel is in Dongcheng District, giving us a convenient base for Wangfujing, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City area and other central Beijing sights.
Beijing is huge. Traveling with a 6-year-old made us appreciate having a hotel that didn’t complicate our sightseeing days.
The hotel also worked well with private transportation. Drivers could find it easily, and the front desk helped us arrange rides when needed.
Our Great Wall Driver Picked Us Up Here
Our driver picked us up directly from the hotel for our 2-day Great Wall trip, where we hiked Jinshanling, camped overnight inside a watchtower at Gubeikou and visited Mutianyu the next morning.
Not having to find a separate meeting point early in the morning was a nice bonus.

Our Room
Our room was clean, comfortable and adequate for our family.
The style was more traditional than modern, but that didn’t bother us. After long days exploring Beijing, we mainly wanted somewhere comfortable to shower, sleep and get ready for the next day.
That’s exactly what it gave us.
If a specific room type or amenity matters to you, check what’s included with your room before booking.
The Swimming Pool: Our Daughter’s Favorite Part
The pool was probably our daughter’s favorite thing about the hotel.
Our 6-year-old was a new swimmer, and after a full day sightseeing, being able to come back and swim gave her something completely different to do.
Adults might choose a hotel for the location.
Kids remember the pool.
We personally used the indoor pool and would consider it one of the hotel’s strongest features for families.
Tip: If the pool is important to your stay, check current hours and access requirements before booking.
Breakfast
Breakfast had plenty of choices, including familiar options for our daughter.
More importantly, we could eat at the hotel and head straight out for the day instead of searching for breakfast every morning.
For a family with long sightseeing days planned, that convenience mattered.

In addition to the things we personally used, the hotel currently lists amenities such as:

Staff and Transportation
The staff were helpful, particularly with arranging transportation.
That sounds like a small thing until you’re jet-lagged, traveling with a child and trying to get somewhere in a huge city where you don’t speak the language.
When we needed help with rides, the front desk helped us.
That’s the kind of hotel service we actually remember.
Does Jianguo Garden Hotel Have an ATM?
There was an ATM inside the hotel during our stay, and we ended up using it.
This became far more useful than we expected.
Instead of hunting for a bank or ATM somewhere in Beijing, we could withdraw cash without leaving the hotel.
That became particularly helpful because our Alipay stopped working after we arrived in China.The ATM Was Surprisingly Useful
There was an ATM inside the hotel during our stay, and we ended up using it more than expected.
Our Alipay stopped working after we arrived in China, so for the first few days we withdrew RMB using our Wise card and paid cash until we got WeChat Pay working.
Having an ATM downstairs meant we didn’t have to search Beijing for one.

Tip: The ATM was there when we stayed, but I wouldn’t rely on any hotel ATM as your only way to access cash.
One Bathroom Detail to Know
One thing surprised us.
During our stay, we were instructed not to flush toilet paper and to use the bathroom bin instead.
It was a small adjustment once we knew.
Don’t assume the same rule applies everywhere in Beijing or China—follow the instructions in your room or ask the hotel.
It wouldn’t stop us from staying here again, but it’s something we’d want to know beforehand.
Who Is Jian Guo Garden Hotel Best For?
We’d especially consider it for:
- Families traveling with kids
- First-time Beijing visitors
- Travelers wanting a central Dongcheng base
- Visitors sightseeing around Wangfujing, Tiananmen and the Forbidden City
- Families looking for a Beijing hotel with a pool
- Travelers using private drivers or tours with hotel pickup
You may prefer somewhere else if you want a new luxury hotel, boutique design, traditional hutong stay or very low-budget accommodation.

Jian Guo Garden worked well for us, but hotel rates can vary considerably by date.
If the price is close to other upscale hotels around Wangfujing and the Forbidden City, compare your options before booking.
If Jianguo Garden Hotel isn’t available or you want to compare before booking, there are several well-rated alternatives around Wangfujing and the Forbidden City. Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing and Hilton Beijing Wangfujing are worth considering if you prefer a familiar international hotel with more upscale amenities, while The Peninsula Beijing and Waldorf Astoria Beijing are higher-end options if you’re looking for a luxury stay.
We didn’t stay at those hotels, so we consider them alternatives to compare rather than personal recommendations.

For our family, it worked.
