Las Vegas, often referred to as Sin City, is a vibrant and exhilarating destination, making it an ideal destination for parents and kids alike. So I brought my parents to Las Vegas, Nevada to enjoy some of the plethora of exciting experiences that hopefully they will fondly remember for a long long time! Albeit, without guilt of sin :-).

Las Vegas Day Trip Ideas

Many Las Vegas tours focus on getting you out of the city and into the surrounding desert and canyonlands. Here are some ideas to consider:

  1. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area: Just a short drive from Las Vegas, this area offers stunning red rock formations, hiking trails, and scenic drives.
  2. Hoover Dam: Visit this engineering marvel located on the border between Nevada and Arizona. You can take guided tours and enjoy breathtaking views of the Colorado River.
  3. Valley of Fire State Park: Known for its vibrant red sandstone formations, this park is perfect for hiking, photography, and exploring ancient petroglyphs.
  4. Mount Charleston: Escape the desert heat and enjoy cooler temperatures, hiking trails, and even skiing in the winter months.
  5. Lake Mead National Recreation Area: Ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming, this area offers a refreshing break from the city.
  6. Death Valley National Park: Experience the unique landscapes of one of the hottest places on Earth, including sand dunes, salt flats, and colorful rock formations.
  7. Zion National Park: Although a bit further away, this park is worth the drive for its stunning canyons, hiking trails, and breathtaking views.

Las Vegas City Tours

With my parents, we did a quick trip to the Hoover Dam and after that we just stick closer to our hotel—and the casinos—as we found lots to do, from taking in dazzling shows to experiencing the city at night.

Las Vegas Welcome Sign

We flew in from Denver, Colorado to continue our vacation this summer. For our flights, we got some free flights from my miles rewards program. (See how to do it here). From the airport, our hotel shuttle picked us up to where we booked to stay for a few nights. A trip to Las Vegas is not complete without seeing the famous fabulous Las Vegas welcome sign. So on the next day we picked up our car rental and started to explore around. Thankfully, coming from Houston, the traffic experience was tolerable.

The Fountains of Bellagio:

The Fountains of Bellagio are a musical fountain show performed in an 8.5-acre man-made lake right in front of the resort. The show combines water, music, and light in a choreographed symphony that captivates visitors. My parents witnessed the mesmerizing water and light show at the Bellagio Fountains, set against the backdrop of the iconic hotel.

Live Shows and Entertainment.

Las Vegas is renowned for its dazzling live shows and entertainment options. Whether you’re into music, magic, or theatrical performances, there’s something for everyone. Las Vegas offers a variety of family-friendly shows, including Cirque du Soleil performances and magic shows. We went to see some shows including stand up comedy.

Night Life, night lights

Las Vegas is a city that truly comes alive after dark, offering an electrifying nightlife scene that caters to all tastes. Whether you’re into dancing, live music, or simply sipping cocktails at a chic lounge, Las Vegas has it all. Not like my parents are into these things ha, but it was cool to see what the night life in Las Vegas was about.

Casino in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is famous for its vibrant casino scene, offering a thrilling blend of entertainment, games, and luxury. We stayed in a hotel with a casino designed to provide excitement and entertainment for every type of player.

Limousine Ride

Las Vegas Hotels offer an array of luxurious limousine experiences that allow you to explore the city in style. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a night out, or simply want to cruise the famous Las Vegas Strip, there are several options. Riding a limousine for the first time was a fun experience for my parents. We didn’t actually plan this when I brought my parents to Las Vegas. So it was really cool.

Las Vegas is a city of contrasts – from dazzling lights to serene desert landscapes. Whether you’re a gambler, a foodie, or an adventure seeker, there’s something unforgettable waiting for you in this vibrant desert oasis.

As for my parents, they have good memories of their trip to Las Vegas. The good memories didn’t stay there in Vegas. I proceeded to bring them around to some more places that I myself want to see, and share the experience with them.
